Biological process and behavior interaction - 550 Words
Biological process and behavior interaction (Research Paper Sample) Content: BIOLOGICAL PROCESS AND BEHAVIOR INTERACTION Studentà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s Name Institutional Affiliation Biological Process and Behavior Interaction The biological approach to behavioral interaction believes that human beings are a consequence of physiology and genetics. It examines feelings, thoughts and behaviors from physical and biological point of view. All behaviors, thoughts and feelings is caused ultimately by biology. There are three different ways on how biological process and behavioral interaction connect. ("The Biological Basis of Human Behavior", 2016) Comparative Method First, they connect through comparative methods. Here, different types of species of animal can be compared and studied in order to help in the search to comprehend the behavior of human beings. Many psychologists agree that social interaction depends on a number of efficient components that are that are pervasive in social animals, both non-human and human. For instance, fundamental social abilities are ability to find a mate, ability to recognize other individuals, to nurture the young, to recognize other people emotional states, to know oneà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s place in the hierarchy and ability to maintain allegiances (Strelau, 1974). However, there has been controversy as to whether the latter cognitive ability that is called theory of mind, is specific only to humans and whether it is based only on an innate cognitive mechanism. But if only this traits were specific to human beings, it must have come from a known place. It must have pillars in brain systems with other social animals, and it can be studied by neuroscience methods. Studies that compare non-human and human species can be used to test the limits of social capabilities that do not rely on mentalizing (McLeod, 2016). Investigation of Inheritance. The second way biological process and behavior interact is through investigation of inheritance. This involves the study on mechanism of inheritance. For instance, on what an animal inherits in terms of behavior from its parents. For example, studies on whether high intelligence can be passed through inheritance from a generation to another had been conducted (Frith Frith, 2001). Research on twin studies have been done to show the degree of concordance between fraternal and identical twins. Twins are said to be concordant if neither or both exhibits the trait. Fraternal twins have fifty percent of genes in common while identical twins have similar genetic makeup. Thus, if concordance rate is higher for identical twins than for fraternal twins, then this shows that genetics play a significant role in the expression of that specific behavior. In 1981, a review of one hundred and eleven worldwide studies were conducted that compared IQ of family members (McLeod, 2016). The research showed that the higher the similarity in humans, the more similar the intelligent quotient score. Below are the correlation figures of the finding: * Identical twins raised together showed 86 (correlation). * Non-identical twins reared together showed.60 correlation. * Siblings reared apart shows 24 correlation. * Identical twins raised apart showed 72 correlation Physiology Thirdly, physiology can also be used to show the connection between biological process and behavior interaction. It try to show how hormones and nervous system work, how the brain works and how the change in structure can impact on behavior change. So far, scientists still know little on comprehending on how human brain works and affects the behavior change. Neuro surgery has helped us understand on how the brain can impact on behavioral change. For instance...
